a NAY vote for the Lily Ledbetter fair pay act. is it because you’re SO in control as majority leader that you can recall the cloture vote later? or do you think you need that many more votes to secure passage? i mean, i hope so. otherwise, you just pissed a lot of democratic ladies off!
rant – i actually had to ask to be paid as much as my male counterpart this year – 2008! – Mr. Reid do understand how this is an INSULT to every working/tax paying female that you would vote AGAINST our right to fair pay? i hope you know it now, and i look forward to your recalendaring of this measure.

and even though women may not be profiting from biofuel farming, this is one of my favorite ways to celebrate independant farming and gender equitable commerce – Cafe Femenino!
coffee that is shade grown(good for birds and trees), by women on farms owned by women, and the profits pay for girl children to go to school! ah…. so good to have a cup of justice in my morning!

That’s funny, I’m a man and I had to ask to get a raise too. In this world, it doesn’t hurt to have to ask. You just need to open your mouth. Not every employer pays you less because you’re a woman. They pay you less because you don’t ask for more and they’re cheap bastards. I think mandatory raises is a crock of shit. You need to do the work to get the money. And you should have to ask for a raise, Male or Female. Quit bitching. Besides, usually the women bitching about equal this or that, still expect ME to open the door for them. Me to pay for dinner, Me to cater to their FEMALE emotions. I say fuck all that shit. You open your own fucking door and I’ll pay you the same, if not more because you’re better at the job, than my Male employees.

hey mr. white male! so glad to get a response! a bit defensive though, aren’t we? i mean, did we date? because then i could understand the ‘cater to your emotions’ comment, i really can – i’m a total princess.
otherwise i’m talking about the workplace, and i really don’t want anybody to have to deal with too many random emotions in the workplace. i mean, leave your bad attitude at your front door and spare me the frowny face no matter what gender you are.
anyway, let’s get down to business. did you get shafted on a raise somehow? i mean i’m sensing hostility about this issue, and i didn’t bring it up at all. i didn’t ask for a raise in my situation. i was offered the same position a male counterpart had been in – at a lower pay rate. so yes, it’s maybe just a case of cheap bastards.
my manager was kind enough to submit me at the same pay rate – based on my performance in the company. i had been with the company longer than the male in the position – and held that position before at his – higher – payrate. BUT the fact that she was even told to lowball me sucks. i think it’s more a case of culturally lowballing our worth as laborers, don’t you?
i think this especially applies to women, though. you are right also that we’re not taught how to be competetive to as great a degree as male students/coworkers. we’re not taught that acheivement or competition is honorable as females. we’re taught that asking for things like raises or making our financial needs as important as our male family members is, well, rude and therefore shameful.
i think i’m a good example of the squeaky wheel for lots of women, but i advise all employees to just research the average pay for their positions when making a raise offer. suze orman has excellent advice on how to ask for a raise in her book – women and money. if you need the gender pronoun out of there look up – young, broke, and fabulous.
oh, and i think people who know me – male and female – will attest to the fact that i am not an armchair/non-doorholding feminist. i work pretty hard to live my equality in the workplace and in my life. i insist that the entire toilet LID be put down, and that whomever gets to the door first open it.
all of which brings me to ask you – what do you think about cost of living raises and the minimum wage? is that what you mean by mandatory raises? please explain…
May 6th, 2008 - 10:23 pm
mandatory raises ARE a crock of shit, not IS a crock of shit.
so, you need to do the work to get the money? how do you feel about bigshot corporate CEOs getting enormous bonuses for running our economy in to the ground? have they done the work to get the money? do teachers work less hard than these people? i know some hard working bus drivers who don’t “get the money”. actors, politicians, sports stars all must work thousands of times harder than everyone else every day too, right? good thing we have a minimum wage…
to prove a point, can we agree that CEOs generally make a shitload of money whether they work harder than teachers or not? the article linked below
states that women CEOs make “far less” than male CEOs. it also says that a comparison of the 20 highest paid male CEOs vs. female CEOs show that the males make TEN TIMES as much as the women. do you think that wage gap gets any more fair with smaller salaries, regardless of how hard anyone works?
“Female CEO’s lack the big bucks”
