you just read it in the headline but i’ll type it again for effect: it’s snowing on mars.
from a boeing news release:
“Solid-state lasers will revolutionize the battlefield by giving the warfighter an ultra-precision engagement capability that can dramatically reduce collateral damage”, says Scott Fancher (vice president, general manager, boeing missile defense systems).
physicists from the university of st. andrews, scotland, have used casimir force in reverse to enable repulsion instead of attraction. Prof Ulf Leonhardt and Dr Thomas Philbin use this effect with a special type of lens to LEVITATE STUFF! these two physicists seem to be bringing us quickly into the far out sci-fi future: they have also figure out how an invisibilty cloak could be possible. just what we need – an invisible levitating army with rayguns!
i guess i’ll just burn my nerf car blueprints…a company from san francisco, XP vehicles, is developing a series of inflatable vehicles made of the same stuff the mars rover used to bounce down safely with. you’ll be able to either purchase one at a traditional car dealership or have it sent to you in two large boxes and assemble it yourself in under to hours. they claim you could drive it off of a cliff. it will float during a flood. it will only be about $10,000. it will even give you relationship advice. just kidding on that one. the cars won’t be available until at least 2010 and they seem to be infinitely customizable. like a pizza.
