anybody up for a protest?

October 20th, 2008

it’s been way to long for me, so i’m bustin’ out the markers and the cardboard! if you know where i live – you too are invited to come over tonight and help me make signs to protest sarah palin’s visit:
The rally in Henderson with Governor Sarah Palin will take place at the Henderson Pavilion 200 South Green Valley Parkway Henderson, Nevada 89012

Doors in Henderson open at 11:00 AM.

IMPORTANT NOTE: These are ticketed events, and RSVPs for both are limited to four per party. To confirm your RSVP, you must retrieve your tickets from your local Victory 2008 location…

i don’t think we have to have a ticket to protest, but i’ll ask our local aclu to be sure there’s a “free speech zone” – which used to be ALL of america didn’t it? sigh….

it’s almost so predictable i don’t want to believe it, but here we go….

the charleston gazette in charleston, west virginia is reporting that voters are witnessing their electronic votes switch from ‘obama’ to ‘mccain’ right before their very eyes. how convenient! any complaints that the votes switched the other way around?

from the article:

“My son Chris said, ‘Mom, I didn’t vote for the people who came up on that machine. I wanted to go back and vote again. I called the lady at the polls and she said it was my fault because of the way I was punching the buttons.’

it should be noted that in putnam county, wv early voters have the option to vote using an optical scan ballot (a paper punch ballot). use the paper ballot!

when gas prices were at their highest this summer oil was at $145 a barrel. oil is now at about $70 a barrel – that’s half of the highest per-barrel price – and gas is still roughly $3.30 in vegas. what gives, assholes?

watch this video for nifty tricks that give the finger to the big oil pricks. or just ride your bike, fatty! that beer gut ain’t gonna burn itself off!

maybe i’ve been living under a rock for the last few years but i just learned of freakin frog’s 2 for 1 happy hour speacial (3:00-7:00). i traipsed over to freakin frog to watch the palin/biden debate a couple of weeks a go and was shocked to see i only had $5 in my slimy wallet. the nice lady behind the counter analyzed my situation and set me up with – to my surprise – two PBRs for $3. brilliant! that tradition will hold fast this evening when the second presidential debate airs live on the frog’s many tvs. arrive early for a good seat. the debate begins at 6:00.

oh yeah, in case you’ve been living under a rock too, the freakin frog is located on maryland parkway directly across from the UNLV campus.

no, i mean it. i think the whole point of the last five elections is to try and get people to participate in a democracy enough to make it a non-representative democracy. so let’s at least try and see, ok? what if about 87% people of the entire country voted. i think we would truly be more powerful as citizens. what if we then reform our election process so that there’s no more electoral college. what if we then voted to expand our participatory democracy just a little? we’d have a little bigger governement and a LOT bigger choice. let’s all speak up at once. let’s study local politics because that affects your pocketbook even more.

go here til 9pm tonight!!!
LET’S GET GOING!

ask a cop!

October 10th, 2008

an interesting and very enlightening discussion thread has developed on reddit.com. a reddit user who is a police officer from an unnamed southern state is answering lots and lots of general (and some specific) questions from other users of the site. many of these questions are ones i myself would have asked and most relate to subjects that seem to be on just about everyone i know’s minds these days. it is a very sobering and highly educational read. i highly recommend – to everyone – taking in as many of these posts as you can. it is a huge chunk of data, so i clicked on the officer’s user name to generate a history of his published comments. this cut out many of the lengthy questions posed, most of which will be obvious through the context of the answer.

thanks to the officer for supplying such useful information. i think most people are intimidated, scared of, and even a little resentful of the police – until they need them. this thread is a great way to get some honest, intelligent answers you would probably never have the balls to ask a cop you weren’t personal friends with.
