here’s a shitty cameraphone pic of it, but frankie’s tiki room is now open on charleston and shadow lane. last night was the grand opening and there were plenty of folks out enjoying drinks that their grandparents used to think were cool because they saw elvis drinking them in a movie. all jaded asshole smarminess aside, this place is totally awesome. thatched bamboo (bamboo-like?) walls and ceilings, lights made out of pufferfish, cool tiki glasses, hawaiian shirts, and what sounded like a really good selection of appropriate surf, jazz and rock & roll playing throughout. i’m really surprised there hasn’t been a decent tiki bar in vegas for the last 20 years or more, but this bar – allegedly owned by the double down owner – is just what this town needs. a fourth option! AND it’s right cross the street from del taco. because you’ll need some chili cheese fries to barf up once all the rum fights its way out of your face.
